Keep It Fresh at Louisiana's Seafood Festivals

Shrimp, oysters, crabs and crawfish — they're not just seafood. They're reasons to party.

Louisiana is the number one provider of shrimp, oysters, crab, crawfish and even gator in the country. We think that's reason enough to celebrate, and we don't mean five friends and a cake. We're talking street parades, live music and fireworks extravaganzas. Read on for our top Louisiana seafood festival picks.

Amite Oyster Festival

Since 1976, the residents of Amite have been celebrating their oyster industry at the Amite Oyster Festival. What began with a single-day celebration has blossomed into a multi-day spring festival complete with live music, carnival rides and oysters served in more ways than one can imagine. Mark your calendars for this annual March celebration.

Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival

Every early May, Breaux Bridge has been celebrating the crawfish since 1960 with the multi-day Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival featuring crawfish, Cajun music — including zydeco and swamp pop — dancing lessons, more crawfish and More Crawfish. Yum! Don't miss out!

Delcambre Shrimp Festival

Shrimping has long been the lifeblood of the Louisiana community of Delcambre, and its people come together the third weekend in August each year to celebrate this beloved crustacean at the Delcambre Shrimp Festival. Feast upon shrimp served every way you can imagine, and see who wins the shrimp cook-off. As you climb aboard the carnival rides and boogie to the live music, keep an eye out for the lovely Shrimp Queen.

This fun fest features live music, crafts, carnival games and rides, and food vendors serving up every kind of local seafood dish imaginable. Try seafood-stuffed potatoes, fried fish, shrimp and artichoke egg rolls, crawfish beignets, crab cake burgers and more before washing it all down with a refreshing daiquiri.

Holly Beach Crab Festival

The Holly Beach Crab Festival celebrates the cantankerous crustacean with a three-day party near Cameron, along the Creole Nature Trail All-American Road. This crab festival features plenty of live music, sandcastle building, bingo, axe throwing, kids games and activities and, of course, the star of the show: crabs — complete with a crab cook-off.
