History buffs will love Leesville's Historic Downtown District centered on Third Street, as part of the lawless No Man’s Land area and for its historic architecture. Downtown’s Historic District offers a variety of artistic entertainment with art exhibits, musical performances and several annual festivals which are held throughout the year.

If you don’t make it for one of the festivals, there’s still plenty to do. Check out the Calendar of Events at Gallery One Eleven for a list of constantly rotating exhibits by both local and nationally recognized artists. The gallery also co-hosts ArtWalk, a celebration of art (held the 3rd Saturday in March and the 4th Saturday of October) in conjunction with the City of Leesville and the Vernon Parish Tourism Commission.

Like your coffee with a side of military history? Visit Joe Red's Coffee, located in the Red Hound Building, a former bar that was frequented by locals until the 70s. Generals Eisenhower and Bradley often met Patton here to discuss the WWII Great Louisiana Maneuvers held at Fort Polk (now Fort Johnson) in the early 40s.

If you’re in the mood for a meal, try Brenda's Kitchen for authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. The empanadas, mofongo (garlicky fried plantains and crispy pork skins), and tostones all get rave reviews. And if you’re in the market for fresh produce, Main Street Market has a selection of locally grown produce, homemade jellies and jams, arts and crafts.

Wrap up your trip to Leesville at the Vernon Parish Historic Courthouse, and take in the beauty of the Beaux-Art building before popping in to check with the tourist commission for more things to do in the area.
