Entering Winnsboro, you’ll quickly realize it’s full of pride, starting with the spirited proclamation that you’re entering the “Stars and Stripes Capital of Louisiana.” You’ll soon see Patriot Square as you approach downtown with a towering flag and hundreds of soldier flags flanking it throughout the community.

This same pride is echoed in its historic downtown. Make your first stop The Old Post Office Museum and you’ll be greeted by the Main Street team and the Franklin Parish Tourism Commission for all the information you need. But don’t leave this beautiful building until you wander through the museum space, with its exhibits revolving around local interests from Mardi Gras to catfish. And be sure to check out the New Deal mural which pays homage to the lumber industry.

Just blocks away is the biggest jewel of the proud Winnsboro crown, The Princess Theatre. This circa-1907 beauty offers artistic enrichment with a community theater that not only presents plays and musicals, but also hosts visiting artists and movies. To the business community it’s been the catalyst for the development of downtown, where there’s plenty more to experience.

You’ll want to lunch at The Coffee Shop, not just for in-house bakery Kallie’s Cookies, but also to experience the sincere warmth and hospitality you’ll receive from the locals. And Winnsboro has some hot spots to shop, like Southern Roots Market where you’ll find new clothes, old glassware, hand-crafted soaps and delicious sourdough bread and tea cakes.
