Part of the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area, this narrow bayou connects to Bay Alcide, a shallow waterway covered with duckweed. Expect a peaceful 10-mile journey with coastal views and flat, marshy landscapes that sing during Louisiana sunsets.
Keep soaking up sunshine at nearby Cypremort Point State Park. The park’s geography makes it an excellent choice for windsurfing, an uncommon sport in the south. If you’re hungry, be sure to swing by for a cup of gumbo or plate of jambalaya at Café Jefferson, an authentic Cajun dig.
